About Us

Chartwood Heritage & Planning is a small, family run practice covering Cornwall and the South West, although we do venture further too. The practice owner, Colin Sellars, is a chartered member of the Royal Town Planning Institute (MRTPI) and is a fully accredited member of the Institute of Historic Building Conservation (IHBC).

Colin attained a Master’s degree in Town Planning from UWE and then graduated with PGDip in Heritage Identity from the University of Birmingham, in conjunction with the Ironbridge Institute of International Heritage.

He has extensive knowledge and experience of heritage matters and an excellent understanding of the planning process and all that it can involve, having worked in the public and private sector for more than two decades.

With legislation, professional guidance notes and building technology continually changing it is important to us to remain up to date so that we provide the very best advice. As a member of the RTPI and the IHBC we ensure that we keep up to date with best practice and any changes to local and national policies so as to ensure your project has the very best chance of success.

Royal Town Planning Institute Membership (MRTPI)

Chartered members of the Royal Town Planning Institute (MRTPI) are recognised for their high quality skills and experience and, as such, you can rely upon the designation as a sign of professionalism. Chartered Town Planners must adhere to a code of conduct that specifies standards of professional ethics and all members are required to maintain a level of professional development throughout their career ensuring they remain at the forefront of new developments, legislative changes and the latest knowledge in planning.

Institute of Historic Building Conservation Membership (IHBC)

The Institute of Historic Building Conservation (IHBC) is the UK’s professional body for historic environment conservation specialists. IHBC members are required to keep their skills up to date and must undertake a minimum of fifty hours of relevant professional development over a rolling two year period. The IHBC designation afforded to full members ensures a high standard of quality control is maintained in any area of historic environment conservation.
